Jubilee Dutch Guild of Head Gardeners

Recently Monique paid a visit to Hyde Hall in Essex to look at their dry garden which was made on top of a hill on clay soil. This to inspire our own plans of making Sissinghurst’s Delos into a rock garden again with a Mediterranean touch. On top of a hill the garden has a sunny position, is backing hot in summer and exposed to winds. It has been made to show people that you can garden in dry circumstances and that plants can thrive without water or compost. Drainage, crushed concrete for height, lots of grit mixed into the clay and huge stones are the base for a Mediterranean garden with lots of relief.
